3800 performance package (y87)
Hi, I'm new to this forum here and so far I like the info I read... sounds very informative. I recently bought a 97 Camaro and as I was reading one of the threads on the different Camaro's I came across this one that sounds like mine, but not sure how I can tell... Vin# maybe? It is the 3800 Performance Package (Y87). Mine has Dual Exhaust outlets and sounds pretty aggressive. I have 4 Wheel Disc brakes and I'm not sure about the steering wheel ratio or the diff being a limited slip. The car was 1st sold in 2000 so it sat in the Dealer's lot for about 4 years if it came out in 96 as normal. It has 95k miles on it now that I've been driving it lots. It does have a 5spd manual shift tranny and I really just enjoy driving this car. The interior is leather and in pretty good shape over all except the driver's seat could use some restitching or a new cover. I got a little bit of hood peel, but other than that, the paint looks a metallic redish/copper and looks great everywhere else. Not sure how to post a pic, but I'm sure it's a Camaro as usual, just wondering if that Y87 package is what I got. Thanks
The Y87 code is an RPO code. It will either be in the glove box or on the inside of the door jam on the end of the door. Factory duals, 3.42 LSD, and a sport steering package. If I'm missing something, somebody let me know
As you said, the Y87 tag was on the door jam in the service tag code area. I also found this link
http://tech.firebirdv6.com/general.html
It has info on what was added on the F-Body Camaro's and I think Firebirds as well. It says that the Y87 Peformance package included:
Y87 3800 V6 Performance Package
The Y87 3800 V6 Performance Package upgraded the vehicle with Auburn limited slip differential (same differential used on V8 models), 11.4" single-piston caliper rear disc brakes (same rear brakes as V8 models), a dual outlet muffler, a quicker 14.4:1steering ratio (same ratio as V8 models), 235/55-16 tires. The Y87 package also gave automatic cars 3.42 rear gears, where as the manual cars kept the 3.23 rear gears.
Thanks a bunch
