Default 3.8 Induction

Ok so I have looked into whisper lids and CAI's and they both seem like good products so I was looking at odering them and found out that it will be around $370 for the setup I want (SLP CAI-$130, wisper lid-$170 and SLP Blackwing filter-$60 + shipping & handeling...) so my questions are:

1) would it better to buy these parts and piece them together or spend a little more $ and just get the full K&N system for the 2000 3.8?

2) which would give me better performance and be an eaiser install? (online I saw a dyno chart for the K&N system and it looked like the car actually lost power aroud 1500 RPM's or something...) Would this be noticable?

The Whisper lids are no longer made so I doubt you'll find one (even if a site says they have em).

The SLP CAI will MAYBE net you 5 hp, same with the lid. The lid is extremely hard to find but IS better than stock. Remove the baffles from the stock lid and you'll have close to the same improvement.

The intakes in the 2000 3.8 worked great and don't really need any improving. If I were you, I'd focus more on your catback exhaust which is insanely restrictive and will net you 10-15 rwhp depending on which you get.

If you're dead set on getting an intake, then go for a whisper lid and the SLP scoop IF you can find the lid.

It's up to you. A CAI isn't going to get you **** for power in the 98-02 cars though... Simply put. You'll spend $400 for 5 hp...

Last I called Whisper had just the carbon fiber ones in stock, I have the regular whisper lid, SLP CAI & K&N filter -- together they work great. Yes SLP's filter is better than the K&N though. The SLP CAI added a noticeable boost on my 3.8 '02 and SS '01 -- I did the CAIs separate on both so I could tell the difference adding them.

I got my Whisper lid from Hawks Third Gen and I also have a K&N panel filter. I had the modified stock airlid before and personally I think the Whisper lid worth it because not only does it look good and clear up your engine bay by deleting the air resonator, but it also works pretty well too. If you can't find a new Whisper lid then you should check around on some forums to see if somebody is selling theirs, you might have better luck finding one on camarov6.com.

Thanks for the help... But in response to evilkal I do already have an aftermarket cat and a stock Z28 muffler with 3.5in quad tips and don't really plan on doing any more exhaust work. But has anyone used the K&N system or heard anything about it?

I was talking about a full catback exhaust. Most aftermarket exhausts are mandrel bent which provides better flow which results in better flow.

And no you're better off going with a lid and the SLP scoop if you can find a lid

Yeah I know that a full cat-back would give me better power, but the reason that i probably wont get one is that well for one I just spent some pretty good money for the cat, muffler, and 3.5 in quad tips... and I test drove a '94 (also test drove a '99 Trans Am, '01 base V6 maro) but the '94 with the 3.4 that had a Magnaflow cat-back on it and it sounded really "raspy" or "tin like" so I got my setup which i personally like, since it has a little deeper tone and gave me the look of dual exhaust... I know that the exhaust probably didnt me much performance gains (if any) but I also know that i dont really have a "performance" car.
I just want a little more kick when i step on it and also heard that the CAI will give the car a little deeper exhaust tone?? If the CAI will make my car sound deeper i will probably buy it just for that, so do you know if it will or if someone just said that??
