OK what is direct injection that you want to add to your car. Please enlighten me.
Of course it's going to be considerably cheaper, it's a 3.4L. In all honesty, they were no better than the I4's that Chevy put in the Camaros in the 80's (more of a joke, than a fact). If you're looking for decent power, good mileage, and inexpensive insurance, then the 3.8L is your best option. If you want to be thrown into your seat, enjoy mid teen gas mileage, a V8 F-body is what you want. As far as insurance goes, with all things constant, your insurance can not be that bad if you have a good driving record. I have a few tickets here and there and my insurance is rather cheap.
I was a ASE and GM Master Tech It was GM that called it Direct injection with the injector sparying right on the intake valve. Infact I think I still have a training manual from 85 that say direct injection right on the cover. GM never put throttal body injection on any Camaro V6. It did do it on the S10 V6.
You think maybe he wants to re-engineer the heads and add "direct injection" to a combustion chamber that is not designed for it?

But even if we use some common sense and think about the term Direct injection it should lead you to the conclusion that it is DIRECTLY injected into the cylinder as opposed to the prior way multi port which is injected through the intake ports.
the op is Obviously a younger and not well versed in mechanics. So yah he may possibly think its possible to add direct injection because he lacks the understand of how it works.
And honestly I have lots of freinds who are GM mechanics. I have no more faith in a gm mechanic then i do in any little shady shop mechanic.
Im done with this discussion.
I'm talking about GDI (gasoline direct injection). They are starting to use it on imports and are getting 200hp out of 4cylinders. I did not think Camaros used that form of fuel injection.
And how much hp gain will you se in a 3.8L with full exhaust and new intake?

Just so you know it not the direct injectors that are making the 200HP the injectors would be responsible for a very small percentage of that HP. Infact there has very little advances in Gas motors in the last 20 years. GM released it Eco tech 2.4 in 1988. It was 200 HP. Injectors in the cylinder is not a new idea, in the past keeping them clean has been a problem. This is the way all deisel engines are. Don't get me wrong the car companies have tried a lot of things in the last 20 years but when you look at the fuel mileage or efficiencies they have not gone up more then a few precent. They have gotten better mileage from better transmissions then accual engine efficiencies
A 3800 would respond better with headers, the 96-99 manifolds are restrictive. As I said in a earlier post 25-30 HP at the crank, closer to 35 with a PCM tune. Of course that assumes everything is work as designed, doing mods to a worn out motor is not going to have the same effect.
