? for 3.4 automatic owners
The noise and vibration at idle in my 94 is just plain unacceptable. There's *no* way that GM would have built a car that did this from new. I'm working on the engine mount replacement idea but last night I discovered at least part of the problem.
The auto trans dipstick tube is hard up against one of the aluminum heater pipes. That can't be right. I'm guessing that the dipstick tube got bent slightly when I removed the drivetrain. But where should the tube be positioned?
I guess the best reference point would be the EGR valve. 3.4 automatic owners, where is the dipstick tube in relation to the EGR valve? IOW how close is the tube to the valve?
Pic of my situation later.

Check the exhaust piping too to see if it's up against anything. My buddy has a 3.4L automatic Firebird that vibrates like crazy too. It ended up being the tranny. The torque converter was in really bad shape and he lost his park brake too.

Tranny, as in tranny mount, or internal tranny problem?

I started a thread on the idle vibration right after I licensed the car. I'm working the grounded out exhaust and mount situation there:

This dipstick thing is definitely part of the problem though. Since I took a lot of pics before, during, and after the engine overhaul I can where the dipstick *should* be. I definitely bent it upward/backward and need to fix that.
I'm in New Orleans at the moment so it'll have to wait until I get home.
Before the engine pull is on the left; after the rebuild is on the right. Big difference...
