Default 2002 3.8L Impala engine ?

Does anyone know if this engine (2002 3.8L Chevy Impala) is the same (block and heads) as the one in the 98 Camaro. I guess a better question is, will this engine work in a Camaro if I change over the intake and motor mounts? Also, I have noticed that on camaro 3.8 engines, when advertised, seller says 95 -97 or 98 - 02. What is different on these?

Thanks.

THe intake changed in 98. You will need to strip the FWD 3.8 to the long block and you all of your Camaro parts and sensor but as long as its a K motor your good to go.

Thanks Gorn. About the 98 intake. The intake on the 97 engine as well as the one in the 98 look the same from the outside. Only visible difference in the motors are the harmonic balancer and a few more heat shields on the 98. Just wanted to make sure before I decide to buy.

I double checked my parts manual and ther intake part number changed in 99. When I was looking for a motor I found the GM part number for the long block that fit our cars. I then looked at all the other cars that it fit. Most 3.8s are the same. You just want to be sure its a K motor. I think they made them up to 04 maybe even later. If I can find that link I will post it.

Found it

Just a FYI. In 1999 This is the change. I assumed it was 98 cause that is when the body changes. Closest is a 02. The intake is in almost of straight line. in the back ground in a 96. The intake is bent right before the MAF sensor.

I bought a 97 today for the donor engine. It has 81K on the engine. $500 for the whole car. Car has some front end damage but I was able to drive it to test the engine and tranny.

It is auto. I will keep my eyes open for a manual. Not sure if I am going to keep it or part it out. All depends on what it is going to cost to get the radiator support, nose cone, hood and inner fender on the passenger side replaced. Rest of the car is in pretty good shape. Nice color too, burnt orange.

If I'm reading right, I think when he says "Manual" He is referring to the Mirrors.

Am I right Gorn?
