1994 3.4L overheats when sitting idle
My car overheats when it sits idle at a light during the day. It appears to not overheat at night that much. It is just during the day. I checked the coolant and i have changed the thermostat. The fan seems to be working fine. What else could it be? I mean it overheats bad. like up to 215 to 230 but when i start to drive again, after about a mile, it goes back down to normal.

Stopped up radiator. Turn the heater on when it is overheating and see if it cools down. If it cools down, then the radiator needs a good flush. If the flush doesn't clean it out, you may need it cleaned professionally or buy a new one. Also, make sure the fins in the radiator are not clogged in any way.

215 is actually normal operating temperature,230 isnt too hot,but i see your point here. When was the last time you had the coolant changed ? When was the last time you had the oil changed ?Check to make sure the hoses going to the water pump are pressurized and hot to the touch when running.I agree with above poster,it would be a good idea to have the cooling system flushed.

no i was going to but everything seems fine it really doesnt get hot unless it idles for like ten minutes and then the fan kicks on and it comes down it never goes over the 3/4 mark when it idles when im driving it stays under half but the hoses arent hard after i get done driving like they should be i just had the radiator flushed btw
