Default Trans. Oil Change

Hallo to all!

In a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro 3800 how many quarts of Dex.VI i put in the automatic transmission?

I've change the filther inside the pan and replace the pan gasket.

I've not drain the torque converter, many person said me that it is not necessary.

So now many quarts of dextron VI i put inside the automatic transmission?

Approximately 4 are ok?

Many thanks to all!

If you drained the converter you will need around 8 quarts or more. Put in 6 quarts and use the dipstick to see how much more you will need. Let the engine warm up for about 1/2 hour, move the shifter through all positions and check fluid level in neutral or park with engine running. Don't drive around till you have the correct level.

Yu can start out with 5, but you may need more. Transmissions are not like engines when it comes to fluid change, so it is always best to go with what the dip stick shows. Add fluid to the cold lvel on the dipstick, then warm up the engine and bring level to hot mark. Drive around normaly for 10-20 minutes and check level again. Too little will allow the transmission to slip and get damaged, too much and the oil will foam and also lead to poor lubrication and slippage. Make sure to check level with engine hot and running to get proper results.

Forgot to mention, there is a grommet/washer that goes around the filter where it fits into the valve body. The old grommet has a habit of sticking to the valve body, so make sure to pull it out. Two grommets together do not seal properly, and the transmission may not work properly.
