Alright so i had this code come on a while ago and i had the Throttle Valve Body replaced. The next day the light came on again, and i was suffering the harsh 1-2 hard shift once again. Do i need to replace the torque converter or what should i go abouts doing? thanks

 

What's the code? You have P1870 in the title for the thread....but as far as I know there is no P1870 because all codes I've seen start with a letter (P, C, B) followed by a 0 (zero) then a three digit number...

 

That's the code that came up on the reader, and they have a service bulletin for it but I'm not sure as to if I need a new torque converter or not

 

Did a google search since my book doesn't have that code listed and found this:

I've seen that and I replace my control valve body, but that didn't fix anything so now I don't know what to do to fix it

 

Did a shop install the part? Also take a look at your torque converter it will get discolored from getting so hot so often, that is normally a good indicator that it has been worn from slipping.

 

Ya I had a mechanic install it and they said it would most likely be a torque converter but I just want to check around to see what people have to say

 

The P1870 code means the computer has detected a slip in the transmission, and doesn't necessarily mean the valve body is the problem (as you found out). The harsh 1-2 shifts is a side-effect because the computer increases line pressure to try and compensate for the slip. Unless you know how to check for what's slipping, you'd be best taking it in to a transmission shop instead of a regular mechanic.

There is a TSB from GM on this for the 4l60E's they state that this can be caused by debris in the valve body and they reccomend valve body and shift kit replacement. My dad's astro with a 4l60E had this issue and this fixed the issue.
