did some more research for the 1995 z28 with p vin I have ,it says 3.23 gears I guess there can be more ratios depending on VIn #,it feels geared higher then 2.73 ,some have 3.43 this with automatics ,so mabey I got some bad info the first time ,the info I got now is supposed to be from Gm,also did not know there had governer to 110 miles per hour ,with governer removed top speed ls 155 lt1 ,so I would imagine ,with the 406 could be like 175mph ,though I am not going there anytime soon ,I allways wondered though with the lt1 why it said 110,couse govenor

try raising the rear and turning the wheel one revolution while at the same time count the revolutions of the drive shaft. make sure the other wheel is turning the same direction. open center section will allow the other wheel to turn the opposite direction and a shot posi most times will not turn at all. if the driveshaft turns 3 and 1/4 times or there abouts its a 3.23.

Vin won't tell you gear ratio. No automatics came factory with 3.42s. If your Speedo only goes to 110, then your gear ratio factory was more than likely 2.73. You can verify this by looking at the shifter selection. If 1st gear isn't labeled, it was a 2.73 factory. If it is labeled, chances are it's 3.23. Example: with 2.73s it'll read PRN-OD-D-D2, with 3.23 it'll read PRN-OD-D-D2D1

You car with either gear set, governor or not, will probably top out at 150ish if you had the room to go that fast.

the info I got was that the lt1 was governed ,not my 406 ,an from gm the gear ratio is 3.23 for a 1995 automatic ,feels like it ,273 seems would be very hard to chirp 3rd ,actually I am ok with the way thing are ,I just relize I have a 20 year old rearend that I changed the gear oil in 2 times since having it will need to be replaced the gears ,will have to check it though

Your car may not be governed, but chances are you car would run out of HP or gearing long before it hit 175 mph. Not all 95 were 3.23s. 2.73s were possible through out the entire fourth generation. Like I said though, every V8 fourth gen I've seen with 110 mph speedo and no 1st gear labeled on the shifter was a 2.73 rear.

Research is key here.
What was the mpg difference in swapping from 2.73 to 3.42? I'm thinking of swapping out my 3.08 diff since I drive in a lot of stop and go traffic, not to mention I like to go after imports on side roads every now and then.
