'98 3.8 BW T5 in a '94 3.4?
Hey guys! I'm looking at buying a T5 5 spd out of a 98 3.8 'bird, and I was just wondering if any of you fellas knew what the differences were between the 3.8 T5 and the 3.4 T5 are.
I know the gear ratios are slightly different seeing as the 3.8 makes a little more power, but as far as actual physical compatibility goes, it's just the bellhousing that's different right? I read something about the input shafts being different because the throwout is internal and hydraulic on the 3.8 as well, please calm my nerves and tell me they're not!
Also, I'd be getting it for $350, is that an okay deal?

As much as I remember, all '93 and later manual transmissions where hydraulic. But that doesn't mean the input shafts are different for other reasons. Hopefully someone with more insight on the sixers can chime in.
Curious as to why you'd want to switch transmissions any ways?

The reason for the swap is that my tranny has a huge amount of play in it, so I want to either rebuild one and sell one, or rebuild one and keep the other for parts.

I did a little looking for you. The 3.4L did use an external while the 3.8L used an internal slave.
You're best off finding a replacement from a 3.4L car so you don't have to mess with any thing extra or rebuild the one you have if you are able too.

Not that I am aware of. I know we have talked about it before. I think the 3800 input and release bearing need the 3800 clutch design to work. The 3800 clutch/flywheel will not bolt to a 3.4.
It is a lot easier to just sell your 3800 T5 and buy the 3.4 one.
3.4 T5 should still be around. The rare part is the bell housing. They tend to break. The bell housing where going $200+ on ebay last time I looked.
