4L60E Solenoid Problem
Hello guys i am having a problem with my 1998 camaro 3.8 automatic transmission with the 4L60E, when cruising the transmission will repeatedly downshift and upshift with a small increase and decrease in RPM normally about 2-400, and it does it consistantly with the same amount of time inbetween down/upshifts when the throttle is lightly pressed, when i give it throttle, the trans will lock into OD but easing off will start symptoms described again, their is no DTC light on and have been checked just incase with 0 codes, i am pretty sure this is a solenoid issue, this trans has a number of solenoids in it tho, TCC, TCC PWM, shift a, shift b, a manifold pressure solenoid, a 3-2 downshift solenoid, and an EPC (electronic pressure control) solenoid, can anyone point me in the right direction, because i dont want to just replace everything, although it should probably be done while the pan is off, but i dont have the funds for that now. any diagnostic information would be greatly appreciated
If you're driving around town while in O/D, your transmission may be gear hunting in and out of overdrive. The slight change in rpm's suggests the torque converter is locking and unlocking, which is what it would do when you give it gas. So, without driving your car to know for sure, on the surface it sounds like your trans is acting normal given those circunstances. For what it's worth, I never put the trans in O/D when cruising around town, because mine would do the same gear hunting you're describing, which annoys me. Try cruising around town in 3rd instead, 4th/overdrive is way too high of a gear to be in for city type driving..
As I posted in reply to your duplicate thread which is not magically deleted, your clutches are likely on their way out, since I had similar behavior when mine were. If it's just a solenoid, you would be lucky -- doubtful.
