Default Premature rear tire wear

So I bought a 2001 v-6 Camaro from a buddy cheap for a gas mileage work car. I noticed the car had a tendency to “step out” the rear end to the left the few times I drove the car in snow. I get this isn’t a 4x4 but it seemed odd and worse then my 2 V-8 cars. Then I noticed that it would do the same thing on wet ground at highway speed. So I decided to take a look and was shocked to see that the new 6k mile tires on the rear were 80% worn on the outside, completely bald on the inside. thoughts? There is no adjustment for the rear end as I understand it.

Outside wear is usually due to hard cornering. You say the car is a little loose in the rear in bad weather? You just describer every Camaro every year and model made. Camaros have always had a focus on handling. That means they try to get the weight 50/50 front to back but because of the front mount engine they can not get there. The result is what you experienced. The bald edges hurt a lot also. They will allow the tire to get on top of the water. Good rear tires is a must on these cars.

Thanks for the reply. I own 3 other F body’s and have owned 4. 79,80 93 lt1 car and 95 lt-1firebird. I understand these things are not snowmobile, but this one acts different. It always goes to the left side....it also kinda jumps left when going over a pot hole. I thought maybe it was just my imagination or the individual vehicle but the 6k mile tire life scares me. Something has to be twisted.....I’ll post pics later

You could get an alignment, If something is twisted they will not be able to align the front to the back. If the rear was tweaked then you should have wear on the outside on one tire and the inside of the other unless the rear is bent.

Also search for String car alignment method. It would show if something is way off.

Yeah I should have an alignment done. It was actually my friends college age sons car. I wonder if maybe he decided to jump some railroad tracks or something before letting it go. Or maybe the car was wrecked in an earlier life and not straightened properly.

Sliding into a curb and bending stuff is not uncommon. Also if a bushing is worn out it can do the same thing over bumps.
