Default Need another REAR END!!

I have a 67 Camaro that was once my dad’s. I plan on putting in an LS7 engine. I need a stronger rear end and i was also hoping to find one that isn’t as wide.. reason being i would like to put a rim that has a larger lip and more tire of course.

I'm considering doing what was suggested on this web article:
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...all/index.html

However the rear end would still have the same dimensions as the original.. i want one that is a little less wide.

I found this thread here:

http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83976
But what year Granada!!

Anybody knows good junkyards or any info that can help me find what I am envisioning? This rear end is holding up my progress..

well if you get a narrower rear then you could run into needing to mini tub the wheel housings. you just cant narrow the rear. you can run a little wider rim with good use of offset.

Moser engineering custom makes the width that you need.. and as camaro boy has said, mini tubs will be needed to tuck the wide tire underneath, unless you like the look of the tire sticking 2-3 inches out of the quarter lip.

Wheels and tires first to use as mock up for mini tubs and to get the width you need for the rear.. Moser's turn around time is 2 days and around 1200 for full package; rear housing and axles (fabricated 9), they also weld on any brackets or perches needed for re-install

Probably a 8.2" if it's a 10 bolt, not the best choice for a performance rearend, but they are in a lot of 1st Gens and held up OK.
I'd do as camaroboy68ss said, and get the tires to fit with proper back spacing not rearend width, as mini tubbing is a major step. There are charts on the internet for rearend widths if you want to swap in another brand rearend, to get something cheap at a junkyard or Craigslist.
Your rearend is 60", and there are some GM cars that have rearends that interchange, or are close in width, but you'll need to fabricate spring perches and weld them on your axle to fit.
Here's a link to a chart:

Thanks for all the input. I did some homework on the subject and looks like i will be going this way:

Buying a Moser 12 bolt/30 spline/Eaton posi/373 gears/Wilwood disc brakes
Moser Engineering 12CDACCAAAXE - Moser Engineering 12-Bolt GM Housing and Axle Packages - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I plan on removing my leaf springs and tubbing it out so i can get more inner width.

I did research on rebuilding an old readend from a junkyard.. its hard to find one with a posi and you never know the true condition... rebuilding it with gears and axles... its about the same price or a little more.. and it probably wont be a 12 bolt. I'd rather have a new one made to my specifics and have that peace of mind.

Anybody have 3.73:1 gears? How are they on the highway?
