Default Front Strut replacement ?

Hey guys. I just ordered two KYB Gr2 struts for my z28. I replaced the rear shocks with these last year. Now time for the front. They have 205,700 miles on them! so should I notice a difference in the handling if I change them? I hope so! anyway, my question is does anybody have any tips on this job. I know i can do it, but if someone has already figured out any problems id like to know!

I finially have an impact wrench with short and deep sockets for it! any other tools needed besides a spring compressor set??? thanks!

good small cutoff saw and lots of penitrating oil. grease the nut under the cap before putting back together. i think theres a sticky on front shock replace.

Just be careful disassembling the strut. Thats dangerous if you dont know what your doing. Thats one thing I'd rather pay someone to do for me. Only cause I've never done it myself.

ahh almost forgot, you will need to buy or rent a spring compressor.

You might as well go out and buy the mounts and sway bar links now too before you start.

I just did mine, went with KYB AGX's.

Here's what the top of my shock mounts looked like when I pulled em out:

I only have 147k KM's on mine, less than 1/2 what you have...

The rubber mount makes a perfect cup to hold the water in and rust the $#!T out of that nut. Good luck getting it off and salvaging the mounts.

3/4 sway bar links snapped too when doing them, so count on that too.

Everything else was fine on the front, no issues.

Oh yea, the DIY spring compressor I had wasn't strong enough to compress the springs enough either. I ended up running them in to my brother to do in the wall mount one at his shop. I'm sure you can find someone close who can do that for you pretty cheaply.

my sway bar links are fine. They have been changed before.

So i ran into a problem. ON the driver side, there are two torks heads. I have the T50 sockey for it. but how the heck do you get to the one right under the brake master cylinder!?

The strut mount if rusted, just wire bush it and paint it right?

I guess I need to remove the master cylinder and just put it off to the side to get my impact in there? I tried removing the two metal brake lines attatched to it but the back on seems to be siezed

Yeah, you gotta remove the master cylinder. Just unbolt it from the booster and move it out of the way. No need to disconnect any brake lines.

you say no need to remove any brake lines? How is that possible with them all being metal. You would bend the crap out of them trying to move the master cylinder off of the studs. So I had to remove moth of them prom the cylinder. I suppose I will have to bleed each caliper now. I need to flush out the old fluid anyway.

I got the driver side out. My mounts look much better than the ones pictured. Not sure why yours are so rusted.
