Default 96 Camaro Rear axle

Every time the car hits a bump, there is a loud noise sounding like the rear axle is coming apart. My boss thinks it's his wheel bearings. I have the rear axles out and tommorow I'm going to put the new ones in. (I forgot my seal puller) You can push on the car and the wheels will stay there, but the body will move. I replaced the sway bar end links and those aren't it. I don't know the terminology for the set up in the rear. But it's the bar that is connected to the suspension that is horizontal. Could those bushings be the problem?

That is known as a panhard rod, it's job is to keep the body from moving side to side on top of the axle. If the bushings are bad the body will move about, and when metal meets metal because of bad bushings, there will be some healthy clanking & clunking sounds.
