Do a LS Fox mustang, lightweight, cheap / readily available parts, the 8.8 rear is awesome, and its easy to drop a LS in especially if you are going with a standalone pcm!

I would use a aftermarket PowerGlide - less power absorbed and get the torque converter matching the engine peak torque.
PG uses 18 HP, THM400 uses 45HP - has alot of mass to turn from dead zero to engine RPM's.
Torque converter people know this and when selection of stall, will ask weight, ratio, torque peak, maybe engine stroke, trans used, and other specs.
Torque converters multiply torque so why not take advantage of multiplying peak torque?

I would maybe consider that but I'm not building is for me. If she said she wanted a fox body I would probably disown her!! JK. If she she said wanted that, I would be searching for one of those, but lucky for me, she is a GM girl.

Thanks for the details on the trans. I am still up in the air. I want reliable and ease of repairs and upgrades in the future. We have used glides in dragsters for years but I wasn't sure if I should go with the 400 in the heavier car.

if its going to be an NA/small nitrous car, you'll want the th400 first gear, you won't make enough power to really use the powerglides

solid body frame no rust ,thats about all I can think of as your striping it down to a shell an replacing everything else to make a drag car ,not running there worth about $500.00 for a good solid shell

Picked up a 6.0 from an 06 Silverado. From what I've found punching it out to 408 is still pretty safe. Motor was running when it was taken out. The truck was hit in the rear. Had 70k on it. Shopping for the rotating assembly and heads right now.

The 96 I found had a small rust hole in rear floor board. I still have access to that one but I'm sure I can a rust free one a little more south of me.

I have a 408, they'll take just about anything you can throw at them with the right parts.
