1996 3.8L v6- New engine installed - Oil leakage
Just had Chevy Dealership install a rebuilt Jasper Engine into 1996 Camaro. During test drive (prior to paying) noticed vibration from under vehicle. Had them put on rack, notice Oil leakage, Steering fluid leakage. Was told rack and Pinion assembly needs replacement. And they were checking the Oil leak. Second pick up and test drive, new vibration, (exhaust) put up on rack, clearly OIL leak from seems like Main Seal (NEW ENG).
Question; where else could this leak be coming from, if not the main seal? Note: Dealer has not responded to me, today make 37 day, they have had my car.

There are several things that can cause the rear main to look like it is leaking. The thing that comes to mind first if the rear intake and it is running down the back of the motor. That does not mean its it and it could very well be the rear main, Just because something is remanufactured does not mean there can not be defective parts. As a warranty mechanic I spent a large amount of my time trying to figure which brand new part went bad or installed wrong.
If they have to pull the motor back out they will need approval from Jasper cause they need to pay for it.
I am a little afraid to ask but what does a dealer charge to install a remanufactured engine? I guess the value on these have gone up. When I did my 96 3800 back in 2009 I had about $2200 in the whole car and I drove it 100,000 miles before I retired it for a Z28. What an awesome car. With the 5 speed I got a little over 30 MPG on the highway.
