Default Rearview Mirror Lights

Hey guys, when I just bought my camaro in march and have never needed to turn the interior lights on. When I went turn turn the rearview mirror lights, I noticed that the pug in the back was not connected, I connected it and the lights were already on. I tried to turn them both off, and they stay on. So the only way to turn them on and off is to unplug it in the back?
Anyone have any ideas?

The more and more I look into the car, the more imperfections I find.

The switches are broken. You can get a used mirror on ebay or a boneyard, unless you feel adventurous and want to take your mirror apart to see if you can fix the switch contacts (if they aren't beyond repair).

make sure the wheel on the dash lite dimmer is not on or all the way up. does the back light come on when the door is opened?

could also be the jam switches not knowing the door is closed.

If I remember correctly from how mine worked, the lights on the mirror are map lights that only went on if you switched them on (switches on mirror), and weren't tied into the door courtesy lights at all.

ahhh so there is a limit to that memory. they come on when the door is opened as well as when the dash light wheel is turned up all the way to make the dome light come on.

update, sorry its been so long. Crabby, I never had the interior light above the rear passenger seat so I went out a bought one and as soon as I installed it, the light came on, however the dimmer switch was all the way down. So i am thinking that the previous owner never wanted to mess with the problem and just unplugged everything so he wouldn't have to worry about it.

i would say one of your switches is stuck or failing. should have switches on both doors, one on the hatch and of course the dimmer wheel by the light switch. check and see if one is stuck in and not coming out. on a long shot could be a wire sorting.

Craby, switches, as in the switches that should make the light come on when you open and close the door??? If so, those are not stuck. Would the wire that is shorting be above my headliner? or underneath my center counsel. When I pulled the interior last week to do a deep clean, I noticed that some bulbs were out as well and some wires were cut (I think it was to maybe install a system in it but not positive) Sorry it takes me a little bit to respond, I'm in the process of trying to figure out whats wrong with my truck too
