Hey! I have that same screwdriver. Nice write-up, I may be putting LEDs in soon myself.


@ auto: If you buy from a place like superbrightleds, they'll already have resistors built in to work with 12V. How bright they will be depend on what color you get; the white bulbs will be the brighter than the colored ones. And yes, the dimmer will still work with them too.

this is for a 98-01, I've got a 2001. Glad you guys found this useful, I wanted to post something helpful up on the forum.

I agree with vwmercer98, ALWAYS disconnect the battery before doing anything electrical related...you'd be a fool not to

And 97 & 2002. Maybe there's a difference in how the 97 cluster connects, but physically it's shaped and fits in like the 98 and up does.
97 was a weird transition year, old front body style, new style interior.
The 96 and older cluster is shaped waaaaay differently, and doesn't slip in and out as easily.

rpdred6- just to be sure, in your last shot of your end result, is that with regular bulbs or leds?

are all the dash bulbs the same 194? my heater/fan/temp control has been completely out

The heater control has two 74 style bulbs, also a 74 for the shift indicator light if you have an auto.
