Default z28 computer help

Hey guys, heard from the mechanic who is doing my safety today. He says that the car needs nothing for safety, but the starting issue is due to a bad computer. Its only sending signal to 4 injectors on startup, and the other 4 kick in about 15 seconds after it fires. So far my options are the scrapyard for 250, can send it away to be rebuilt with a one year warranty for 200, or can buy one from GM for nearly 1000 bucks. Im thinking I'm going to send it away but was wondering if there were any good suggestions out there.

Depending on the year, check your local Advance (or our website) and see if carry one. I know we have some for my '93 that are a couple hundred bucks. Other than that, I'd go for either the scrapyard or send away. $1k is too deep for my pockets. Haha

Look on ebay, if you're shopping in the used budget aisle.
There are a crap ton of them for well under a hundred bux.
You'll just have to weed them out to find the compatible one.

What year is the car? Some years have unique computers available only for that year.

93 Unique OBDI
94 Unique OBDI
95 Unique OBD 1.5
96-97 OBDII
98-02 LS1 OBDII

Other things you need to keep in mind for all computers is the options of the car such as Auto or Manual, ABS and Traction control, grear ratio. If this is not the same as the computer in your car you will have issues.

Good point Massey, I hadn't thought of auto and manual computers. Its a 94 auto LT1, not sure about OBDI. After looking around my area theres not much as far as junk yard camaros, and I don't trust ebay enough to buy a used computer so Ive decided to send it away for a rebuild.

Another thing I thought of about your issue. Check your power feeds. Each bank of injectors gets ground through the computer but it gets it's power off a power bus. Check injector fuses as this is where the injectors get their power. If the fuse is good remove it anyway and check for power. One post will be hot when checked between it and ground, the other side should have continuity to the injectors. Also rent a NOID light kit and test the injectors yourself as the rental is cheap and the computer is not, and the computer is not returnable if it is not the problem.
