I am trying to convince my dad into leting me buy a 4th gen. Camaro, so I need to know how much insurance costs for you? Mainly males in the age range of 16-25. I want to get a base camaro now and do an engine swap whenI pay the car off. I live in MN by the way, andI think our insurence company is Countrywide.

It will be high for you. Even with a 1973 VW Beetle. You're young, so it will be high. Even higher with a Camaro.

And please, before you even buy the car, buy a Z28 if you want to have a V8.

 

I got my 99V6 Camaro when I was 18. My insurance with Farmers was going to be $2000 every 6 months. I did have one minor parking lot accident on my record. No way I could pay thatas a studentso I am insured on my Dad's Ford Ranger and he is insured on the car. It costs me $365 every 6 months now. But every insurance company is different and it depends on your location.

 

Your rates are roughly average to what most younger people would pay.

And on the swap note:

The vehicle itself loses actual value. The more it deviates from factory (on our cars), the more specific a buyer would be. Therefore, long term value deteriorates. The time it would consume would be unreal to the shade tree mechanic. It would require a new PCM, wiring harnesses, *may* need transmission work, driveline would need to be changed, instrument cluster swap, etc. It's a costly project, to say the least. I'd stick it out with a Z28. Simple as. I bought my V6 with the intentions of keeping it at that, really :P

Hah, talk about a lucky pick. I had a few VWs a few years ago. All of them have been restored and told. Let's see, a '72, '73 & '74 SuperBeetle. They were fun to work on. Simple, really. My dad and I have since then bought and told a Triumph Spitfire (EXCELLENT LITTLE CAR) and we currently have a 1979 MG MGB. It's in pretty good shape. Some body issues here and there, and it needs some minor engine work. Other than that, it's ready to go and ready for a much more thorough restore.

 

well, im 16 and i have a 1996 3.8, i pay 750ish every 6months, and im on my own insurance not parents, go through progressive, and it doesnt matter if you have a v8 or v6, its just listed as "camaro" under insurance.

i was surprised how low mine was, i was expecting 3grand a year. and it wont really mater what car you have unless it's like a kia sofia, your insurance will be high.

by the way, i dont have collision.

 

Are you looking for full coverage or just liability?

 

Which ever is cheapest. I dont drive my current car hard at all, I guess you could even say I baby it. And I would be a hell of a lot more careful witha Camaro.
