Default WTF HELP -***UPDATE***

I bought my car a few weeks ago, i knew it had a misfire and was idleing high plus i needed an inspectionso i brought it to chevy, where it's been for over a week. Turns out it had a leak in the intake manifold so they fixed that, replaced a TB gasket and other stuff. The car still had a code or two that they couldn't figure out how to fix so they cleared the codes and said to drive it for about a 100 miles and see if the codes come back. So i told them how am i supposed to drive the car without an inspection sticker and they said that's your problem basically. So I was thinking since the codes are cleared, i'll just take the car to my guy, have him inspect it and if the ses light comes back on i'll just bring it back to chevy after its inspected, but hopefully the light won't come on anyways.

So i get to chevy and they tell me the car is still idling a bit rough and they think it's because the car has a mild cam. I said cool, any specs on the cam? and they said no, and that its not cool because they can't pass it for inspection even if the codes don't come back on because it wouldn't be street legal. I didn't understand how they could know its not street legal if they don't know anytihng about the cam, but whatever. So my plan is still in action, take it to my guy (who isn't good with codes, just good for breaks, passing inspection and what not), but that plan got shot to **** when on my way home the SES light came back on. So now i'm screaming obscenities in traffic because now i have to bring it back to chevy tm and even if they fix the code they won't pass me. They told me if the ses light comes back on (which it did 2 minutes after leaving the place) to bring it back to them but they won't pass the car until i go to a speed shop and have the aftermarket parts removed.

UPDATE** ok so i brought it back to chevy this morning and they said it's p0300 which is a misfire and an egr valve code. They said they cleaned the injectors twice and think the previous owner may have messed with the pcm chip/MAF. but they said replacing a maf is like $400. they cleared the codes for me again but the chances of the SES light not coming back on are basically 0 if its misfiring and all that. so my question is, if it were because the person messed with the maf, does that mean the car is actually misfiring or just messing with that made the car BELIEVE that it's misfiring?

PS: everytime i go there the chevy guys just tell me that they think its cammed and i need to sell it. that's all they say. "we don't know what to do, you should sell it"

nah i'm from ny where it's also pretty strict, not as strict as cali, but strict nonetheless. I'll try to find out the code. I'm assuming it's whatever code they just cleared, would be weird for it to be something completely new.

basically they're telling me that the codes may be a result of an aftermarket part(s) that they know nothing about. he mentioned the car has an aftermarket maf, which i've heard can cause trouble, but i guess i need the codes first.

yeah i know no one can help without me giving them information, so right now i'm pretty much just venting lol. I never thought i'd have toworry about my car already having performance parts on it. I guess i'll just get the code from chevy and if they think it has to do with a maf or something i'll go to a speed shop and see what they say.

dealerships are notoriously bad with cars.... surprisingly. the business actually has very little to do with automobiles lol. however, if you can get the codes cleared up they will have to clear you no matter what. the laws specify what you need to pass inspection. some dumbass dealership mech cannot stop you just on a hunch.

well that's why i figured that i'd just bring it to myguy to get the inspection since they cleared the codes, but then once a code came back up i was like @#$@ cause my guy sucks at fixing anything other than the basics, and apparently chevy can't fix anything unless a cars completely stock.

a rough idle doesnt necessarily mean cam.id ask to speak to the head of the shop. if we can get that code cleared up for u there is no reason for them not to pass you. like i said, the hunch of a mechanic doesnt mean anything

I'll get the codes tomorrow, but here's what the receipt said

Customer states throttle stays applied
Scan for Codes p0300, p0440, p0442 and p0507
Performed diagnosis found intake manifold gaskets leaking
replaced intake manifold gaskets cleared all codes
idle still hung up replace idle air control
idle not binding-runs rough like has mild cam
cleaned throttlebody and injectors
has rough idle

I had this car there for a week, i just want to drive my damn z28.
