Due to having more backspacing, the 4th gen wheels will not fit the 3rd without spacer/adapters, at least 1.5" thick. I've already tried that one.

I'm thinking of doing this. My brother wants to swap me the wheels from his 91 Z28 for my Z06 wheels. He will need spacers to put my wheels on his 3rd gen, but from what we can tell his wheels should fit my 4th gen as is. (someone please correct me on this if i'm wrong)
I had him show me an example of how my car would look, it's not the greatest pic, but you get the idea.

Check your clearances before you seal the deal. Both wheels are 8" wide, but the 91 wheels are going to stick out 1.5"-1.75" more than your current wheels do.

Thanks for the tip, we're going to put 2 wheels on one side just to see how it looks and fits before I make my decision.

if we dont buy spacers for his car will the wheels still bolt on and drive okay with a little rub on the turning or will they just not fit at all without the spacers

You can have the tire all the way against the back fenderwell, and the axle hub won't even be close to touching the wheel. It ain't happening without spacers. But try it, then you'll be able to measure how thick of a spacer you want to use.

How far do they stick out? I won't be able to actually see his wheels on my car until the next time I take the Camaro on a trip to PA. That's a lot of gas money to find out it looks stupid.

if 69s calculations are correct (and they are all the time) then i would say a little under an inch outside the fender.
