When you said it used to have an aftermarket alarm, my thought was that could be what they did to tap into the door lock function with the aftermarket remote.

Nothing ever appears to have been crimped on the open end.

It's just strange.

Is that open end a crimp connector, or is it a female slide connector? Looked to me like it could be a female type.

Looks like a regular butt connector, but who's to say what their intention was. I've stopped trying to figure out someone else's wiring jobs, some I have come across have been mind boggling.
