Help! Serpentine Belt slips off

Default Help! Serpentine Belt slips off

Hi im new here and I need help. Recently my serpentine belt has been slipping off while im driving my camaro and it has happened twice already. Does anybody know what could be causing this??? Do i need to tighten the belt tensioner??

It is a 1999 3.8L v6 camaro.

you cant tighten it but i do recommend replacing it along with a new belt

look at the idler and tensioner for any damage or odd wear. spin them and listen and feel for rumble or unevenness. check all the pulley's for damage or warpage. has the belt been slipping?

You can't tighten the belt tensioner, it's spring loaded (self-tightening). I wouldn't be surprised if the spring tension has gone weak. With the belt on, if you can push the tensioner pulley away from the belt by hand with any kind of ease, or if you can spin your alternator pulley by hand, you need a new tensioner.

thanks for the feedback guys. Im currently at my parents house for the winter holidays and so ill check the suggestions you guys gave me when i return to my apartment where my car is located after new years.
