so i have an auto. and when i race i start in first gear then push it up one to second then drive. how bad is that for my transmission?

 

It won't do any damage as long as you dont mess up and try to go into Park, Neutral, or Reverse. It also does not buy you anything, because it is an electronic transmission, which means (if everythibg is working properly) that shift points and feel were set for optimum by the factory,also shift speed depends on the various solenoids and line pressure which are all computer controlled according to engine load. Just put it in Drive and mash the gas pedal.

but doesnt shifting also give u more power cuz your on low gears. and what if your on drive and put in neutral just to make it roar i guess you can say i cant think of the word lol.

Put the car in Drive and go man. It will shift better and will be faster.

your time slips should answer that. Are you more consistent letting the tranny shift on it's own or are you able to shave some time off by shifting yourself? Again, the time slips have your answer.

As for running a manny tranny at the track, an auto is best for bracket racing and consistency. Now for my daily driver, it's been a manny tranny for almost 30 years. I like driving a car, not riding in one.
