Default Whats a good stereo setup

I have a 1999 camaro v6 with a five speed stick (but i dont think that matters). i am wanting to get a new stereo system but im not sure whats a good setup to get. i have the stock moonson radio setup. i want to get subs and a new head unit and maybe some new speakers(if i can afford them). im not looking to spend a ton of money on it, but i was wondering what setups other people have that sound good. I might just buy the stuff on craigslist and have a shop install it. Any tips advice would be great.

check craigslist for a system. Its close to the holidays so everyone is selling stuff, plus no one wants a system in their car during winter(bumping anyhow).

I have 2 400 watt each 12s in a camaro box. The amp I'm not sure what size, but i would guess 1,000watts at least. Sounds good, but i hardly play it loud(even have 1 speaker unhooked).

Kicker- all around good sub.

JL audio or good, but really over priced(not worth the money compared to other lower costing subs).

MTX- really good imo.

Rockford Fosgate

just to name a few, i would search each and read reviews. I forget what brand mine are, they came with the car. I'll look and see when i get a chance, they hit pretty dang hard for 400watts.

My husband laughs at me but I've wanted a stereo system in mine as well. I was a "hair band teenager" and it brings back memories of cruising in my z28 my senior year which was quite a harassing senior year :/ I have a sony in mine that came with it. It needs new speakers which I may try to tear into myself. The wrecked car we have has a pioneer and it sounded nice. My son took it out to put it in mine but said it wouldn't work? Strange, identical cars.

Crutchfield.com

The reps there are super helpful and can answer anything you need as well as recommend products. They also sell the 1.5 to 1 DIN adapter you will need for a head unit as well as some other products you might need if you have the steering wheel controls or power antenna

You first have to ask yourself one question, "Do you want a lot of bass or do you want good sound?".

I have a '98 and it just had a AM/FM/Cassette radio in it. I replaced it with a JVC car radio and I'm happy with it. I have a dual 400W amp pumping a single 800W 8" JBL sub. It rocks!

If you want more, you can put more into it. But the real question is, what do you want out of it?

What would a setup like that run?
