Default What are these buttons?

On my v6 2001 Camaro, i pulled the dash cover off and I saw a few buttons sitting on the top of my stereo.
I originally had the red light which looks like its for a security system. It has 2 wires red and blue going to it. I don't have a way to activate security as I have no power windows or locks, thus no button to enable security, or was this light for something else?

The brackets to hold in the other buttons are all broken off, so i pulled out the light one and put in the one that is currently in, it turns on and the orange light turns on, I'm just not sure what it's doing when its on.. Was it for fog lights, because I don't have those either.

The SGS button I know is for second gear start, but when I press it it just clicks back off, it wont stay on, Do I need a new button or what?

You're right, the one in the second pic is for the fog lights. I can't say for sure on the light, though my guess is some kind of security light. I've only seen two in any Camaro myself, mine has fog lights and SGS. The SGS button doesn't stay down like the fog light switch when you turn it on, but it should light up and stay on when you push it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What exactly would an SGS do in a manual..?
I'm a little confused as to why I'd have an SGS in my car when it is a standard transmission as I could just start off in 2nd myself..

Also, any ideas why my stereo turns on and off as it pleases?
Bad wiring?
I looked back behind it at the wiring, but I haven't got the slightest clue as to how to wire up a stereo system so I wouldn't know what's wrong.

i have almost the same radio in my car but its from there premier line its most likely the radio mine does the same thing because its old and the terminals hinges are worn if you push on the face there should be little movement. as far as the button my best guess is that the light one was at some point a blank just to fill the hole and they put a light for a alarm in it. on my dash i have a little plate that says camaro on it never looked behind it but i bet there is 2 more holes for switches. previous owner prob took the plate off and tried to fill the spaces with more switches he picked up used. also cars have the same wiring harness and the factory just uses what options they need for the car they are building so you will find plugs that are not being used in the dash. maybe the prev owner picked up that sgs switch on ebay to fill one of the holes then said hey look this plug fits in this switch let me try it. but thats just a guess on my part but i have done the same thing on my explorer

The SGS would have to have been added later if you have a manual. Probably what mab said about the previous owner putting it in just to fill the hole...

A possibility with the radio going on and off is the BCM. There's a thread on how to fix it if that's the problem. Could be bad wiring though.

Any chance your car was converted from an automatic to manual? People have done that you know.
Then the existing unneeded switch and light would have been buried up by the radio purposely. Just a thought.

i almost forgot you can go on compnine.com and enter your vin and it will show you a build sheet on your car that should resolve any doubts you have on what belongs in your ride.
as far as the radio it could be the bcm on mine its deff. the radio it only happens every once in a while and alway after i change the cd because the face of the radio has to much play and does not maake a good connection next time it happens push on the face and see if it come back on then off when you let go of the face

That's what I was thinkin'

Also as far as the radio goes, after I pulled it out and put it back in, it rarely turns on, only for a second or two, if it stays on and i punch the accelerator the sound cuts in and out.

When it's off my fog light button wont light up if i try to turn it on.
seems like a big electrical issue.
