Default what are symptoms of waterpump on the way out?

as the title says.. Im hearing something after i drive for a while(30 mins) what sounds like a knock in the engine, i know the ls1 has that little top end chatter when cold but this sounds like its coming from the serp belt area, tensioner is few months old and still tense, my antifreeze turned darker though, what Ive noticed.

on a side note- im going to be driving through PA soon, how are the cops around/on the I80, and I81? safe to set cruise at 75?

theres a weep hole on the waterpump when the bearings get too much play it causes coolant to come out usually way before the pump dies

As too your Pa question, it depends on what part of I-80/I-81 your driving through. You should be safe doing 75 on I-80 in most places. Not sure on 81 though. Personally, I wouldn't "cruise" at 75. Anything about 60-65 mph creates more drag on the car and lessens your mpg. Just food for thought.

thanx fellas, I did notice a dampness on the engine around there but nothing to cry about, will look again in the morning.. and for the PA thing im coming from NYC going to the buffalo area, a majority of the drive is 81N and a chunk going west is 80W, most of the time I set cruise 75 doing these sort of trips but normally take a different route, this route shaves off an hr on the total trip, and setting cruise 75 would help too, oh yeah btw this isnt going to be a camaro bull run, some little econo thing from a renta-car place.

actually a little uneasy taking it far lately..

ya they patrol the 90 with helicopters and theres speed radars every 10 miles on the lights/ signs (my uncle works for the state i know all sorts of fun road stuff too bad i dont live there anymore) and they time you between tolls if your way under time you get pulled aside for "random checks"

Now im puzzled. at normal temp, the noise what i thought is the waterpump has vanished, theres a lot of muck looking pieces when i opened the rad cap, a rubber cap on the lower part of the rad started leaking, replaced that and found some little pieces of what looks like a gasket inside of it, will do a flush tomorrow and see what comes out. i guess this is why you dont mix red and green antifreeze

Make sure you pull the overflow tank and wash that out too.

60-65 i'd have to be in 5th gear to cruise at around 2.4-2.5k rpm
75 im in 6th at like 1.9k rpm
I'd say better mpg at 75
