Default What size tires

This is for anyone running 17's on their car. I will be getting some 17x9.5 rims for my car and was wondering what size tires to run. my brother runs 255/55's on his car and when I put them next to my car they seemed to be way too big. My options are a 255/40, 255/45, or 275/40. Which would you reccomend? I am kinda worried about the 45 sidewalls being too tall. Just as a side note I plan to eventually lower the car.

I just have the 16s and when I went in to buy my tires the guy gave me crap for not bringing the car in and swore my 255/50s would rub but guess who was right... not him. Sorry I dont know about the 17s I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

My personal opinon would be to get 275/40. Main disadvantages with wider tires you might notice are a little more$$$, and it's that much easier to hydroplane in the rain.

I've always heard about that hydroplane thing but my last two trucks had 60 series tires on 8 in. wheels and I never hydroplaned. Maybe because I have enough sense to know that you shouldn't drive quite as aggressive when its raining. I'm sure it can happen, and has,but I've never been a victim of it myself.. and I'm definetely gonna go wider when I replace my wheels/tires.

I hope that wasn't a knock on me... It can happen at lower speeds as well. The heavier the car and the skinnier the tires, the car will be less likely to hydroplane.

I am running 275 40 ZR17 on a 17" X 9.5" wheel. Looks great, no rubbing, and the cars lowered alittle. And for the hydroplaneing, its a Camaro so its hard to avoid, turn on the ASR if you got it and just be careful on turns.

I am running Z06 wheels with a 275 40 tire and my car is also 1.25" lower and I don't have a problem with it. But yes those tires are a little more pricey.

Crazy LT1 do you have a pic of your car? I just want an idea of how they look lowered and with the wheels.
