Hey guys, i'm new to the forums and also new to Camaros. A few weeks ago I got this idea in my head that I love Camaros and I'v decided that I want the 4th gen (1993+ I dont know if the 92 is a 4th gen but I dont like that style as much). You guys obviously like the Camaros alot and I just wanted some advice to what I should look for.

What I'v decided I want...
-v8 ( Or mabey a v6 if there is no reason to get a v8 but the price diffrances really arent that much)
-Under 90,000 or very nice shape if above 90k miles
-No convertibles
-Would love a stick shift (I dont know how to drive one, its on the bucket list for sure. also dont know if they come in stick shift so w/e)

Thats about it, Just wondering if there is anything more that I should look for any any problems common to the 4th gen camaros that I should look into.

Also wondering what years you guys think I should look into and if someone could link to me or explain the diffrances between a ss and z-28 that would be cool.

There is a big difference from the V6 engine and the LT1 and LS1. The LT1 has about 80 horses on the V6 and about 100 torque. The LS1 has around 125 horses and 120 torque on the V6. The LS1 is offered in 1998 and up cars. If you have the funds i would personally say the LS1 is the way to go. Your looking at some wear from 8000-12000 for a mild millage car in fair condition. If your looking to go a little cheaper the LT1 is still a great engine. You an pick a LT1 up for around 5000 depending on condition and millage. Both engines have good track records and run well into the 200,000+ miles range as long as you take care of them of course.

The SS package is a suspension and body package.

as cbr said...both the LT1 and LS1 are great engines and can be built to run like mad...the v6 is just that, a v6...however the insurance on a v6 will be substantially less than any with a v8. i personally like the lt1 and many guys like the ls1. there are slight styling differences between the 93-97 models and the 98-02 which influences some peoples decisions

 

I have T-tops and they are amazing! so thats a plus when looking at one, just make sure that the seals in them don't leak!

 

I am thinking I want 93-97, also wondering if the z28 or ss should make a difference in what I choose besides looks.

I also am leaning tword a v8 sense I plan to spend a good amount of time and money on this car. I am talking to someone about buying their camaro but it has a v6 and I dont want to regret getting it later, course there is no real reason I should buy a v8 atm but like I said I dont want to regret it later. What do you guys have to say about this?

 

Coming from a v6 camaro guy, just get a z28 or ss, lt1 or ls1. You will regret it, and there are v8 6 speeds so you don't have to get an auto. Also, get TTOPS if you can find them in good shape, I have and I love. Its not that I hate my car, I love it. But I'd give my left nut for a z28

 

I know I'm gonna regret saying this... go with the 6 and put a lil money into making it faster. the savings in ins and gas will be worth it. its easy to say go with the Z28... but what about when gas was $4 a gal?

I just got a 2000 3.8 with 80K miles on it and it only set me back $3900. its in perfect condition with T-Tops.

 

What do you plan on doing with the car? daily driver, How many miles a day do you drive?
Because these car are fast and older you really want to find a good mechanic. Pay him to check out the car. Some of these cars have been babied since new, some pounded on for more then a decade.

You need to go out and do some test drives. Drive the LT1 a LS1 and a V6. The V6 will be cheaper when you buy it, how much it costs to maintain and insurance. I would also recomment the 96 and up V6's in its stock form the 3800 has 35 more HP then the 3.4.
