If you want to do a 383 build right you're going to need heads that have a substantial amount of flow over the stock heads. Look into AFR 210cc or bigger race heads to get the job done.

Get a ring and pinion gearset. That will easily break you into the 12's if you are already running 13.1. Or slap on some drag radials. I guess it really depends on how serious you are. You could shed some weight (spare, jack, carpets, rear set, washer fluid, armrest stuff, glovebox crap, 1/2 tank of gas) and save 100lbs. Also, I'd take a look into replacing some suspension components. Not only does this make the car more responsive on the street, but will make it more pleasurable on the track as well. A new torque arm will help your launching.

Changing the ring and pinion isn't going to sacrifice your rear end. Keeping your foot in the gas on hard launches - that will destroy the stock rear end. The destruction occurs sooner when you roll on stickier rubber.
