This part really isn't hooked up on either end on my car. What is it?

The first picture looks like the EGR valve.

I know the EGR, we had it replaced in the silver car. The thing I was wondering about is circled. I have been searching and is it a breather or something along that line? After talking to my son today about it, he said his wasn't hooked up either when he first got it and he hooked his back up. This one doesn't want to do that, there's nothing really holding it in place.

I see where it's suppose to go because we have 2 identical cars. I want to know what it is?? There's nothing to attach it on either end. It keeps falling off. If it's important, what can I do to keep it attached? The part that goes to the valve cover is suppose to have a "boot" on the end of it going in a "hole" on the valve cover but it's half torn off and previous owner looks to have tried to get it to "stick" over the hole. Would it leak air in or out? The other side has a clamp on it but there's nothing on the intake area to clamp it to. It just pushes up against it.

What you're referring to is your crankcase breather tube, you need to keep it connected. On the end connected to the intake duct, is there some extra on the hose where you can cut a little off the end to get rid of the stretched portion? The end on the valve cover, I can't say since I can't see what was done. Possibly an auto parts store will have a replacement grommet that will work.

I'll see if I can get a better picture of what I'm dealing with.

And this thing really isn't a "hose", it's not that flexible if at all.

wow, somebody has tried everything on that valve cover. the part number for the valve cover grommet is 14078872. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm the other end looks to be torn from the intake tube. may have to look around for another intake tube or go for a cai. you can look in the parts manual here http://performanceworks1.com/PDF%20F...s%20Manual.pdf
