Hello, I am going to look at a 4th gen tomorrow. It has a LT1350 with a 6 speed in it. Is there anything that I should be on the look at that are problematic on these cars? The guy is askin 3k, so thinking either a steal or something wrong with it.

 

what year, hard top?

 

Thinkin 97, it was dark when I saw it, so didn't check the year on the vin. It's a t-top firebird. I'm goin back in the mornin to look at it and talk to the owner.

 

woh, like you said must be something. or could just need tires, brakes, ball joints. stuff like that that cost allot in a shop but if owner does it not so much.

 

My lift is down so I can't really look into it much, so wasn't sure if there were problematic areas with them that I should make sure and pay more attention to.

 

How much power can I make before I have to worry about flex being a t-top?

 

it flexes at stock. without damage i would think its up there. 400+ sub frame connectors take care of that. weld in are best.

 

Make sure the clutch engages and disengages smoothly, and if possible, disconnect the slave cylinder and shine a flashlight up onto the fork to inspect for any cracks on it. The forks are know to crack and eventually break since they're cast. A replacement, if you can find it, will set you back a pretty penny.

 

Went and looked at it in the day light. I'm not sure about it. Both bumper covers need replaced and the clear is cracking. I haven't talked to the owner yet cause not sure if it's somethin that would work for what I'm looking for. If you guys were wanting to build a lower budget 1/4 mile car, would you waste your time and money with somethin like this? Thanks

 

if you want to build a low cost 1/4th mile car ,look for one that may need an engine but evrything else is good 1000.00 probley ,there are many .rust free z28 out there ,then find a used lt1 an build it to 400hp ,graigs list 3000.00 thats to much unless its got low miles an runs good ,most cars that have a beat up .body,have even worse machanical issues ,so if you want find one needs a rebuilt engine with a good tranny ,,check for rust to under the car ,1500.00 or less ,probley cost another 2500.00 to build the engine where i live there is ton of them,you got to thin k whats a low cost 1 4/th mile car ,as that alone can cost,find the one that needs minumal work done i had seen one ,all it need was tranny rebuild wanted it gone 800.00 it had 98.000,that you will need to do alot of searching ,but you can get there ,where . live makes a .diffrence ,as far as cost ,grais .list put your price an an see what they have ,i had seen a .ss with 87.000 miles looked sweet was $5000.00 if it needed nothing ,thats a great car for 4/th mile
