Synthetic, name your favorite poison. Some people think that synthetic costs more to use. But when you figure it has twice the life of conventional oil, and you're changing the filter half as often, it ends up costing you less money and time in the long run.

Conventional oil can sludge up inside the engine. Synthetic oil has anti-sludging properties, and can actually start to clean away sludge that you might have. If your engine has only been on a conventional oil diet, you would want to keep an eye on the dipstick and see how well the oil is staying clean. You may want to do your next oil change a little sooner, depending on how it looks. I generally go 6-7k miles between oil changes. You have to change your way of thinking when using synthetic.

I was using Pennzoil ultra with mobil1 extended filter. for about 2yrs. I switched back to dino oil and fram filter. supertech 5w30 and a toughguard filter changed every 3k now.

I think my car runs quieter/smoother with conventional but could just be the lack of sleep iv been getting.

5W-30 or 5W-40 is more than good enough.

One of the most important questions to ask, is the motor a roller cam or flat tappet. With the lower amount of zinc starting back in 07 it will make a big difference to the motor running a 5w30 with a flat tappet cam.
