What do you think - '94 Z28 convertible
I'm still looking. I have been chasing craigslist for most of the towns in Florida, watching eBay, and Autotrader.com. The hassle I run into are mostly V6 cars with 100,000+ miles. Surprising how many are 150,000 or so. Also, I am preferring the convertible, then t-tops in my search, and the convertibles are coming up short.
I checked this '94 Z28 convertible today. It has an issue with gas mileage being about 12-14 mpg which is a lot lower than everything I have found on the fourth generation cars so far. That is why I started the gas mileage poll, which seems to make them look a bit lower than most advertise.
The car is very clean, older guy owns it and has for about ten years or so. Everything seems to work.
First issue I found was I made a u-turn, straightened out, and then stood on it. The engine revved to 5500-6000 (beginning red area) and began to stumble. Do these have a rev limiter built in? That is what it acted like.
I am confused that with an automatic,it didn't simply shift to the next gear instead of limiting.
How accurate is the oil pressure gauge in these? It was running about the first mark, 20 lb, after going for a drive. Cold idle was slightly under second mark, roughly 35 lb. This seems a bit low, but then, if the gauge isn't that accurate, then it may be ok.
The car has a little rust on the core support bar and the headlights. It used to be in Ft. Lauderdale and the guy likes to live and hang at the beach, so I'm assuming this is from the salt spray and salty water on the roads you get there. The rest of the car looks clean enough.

I live in Allentown PA and none of the 4th gen I have own have had that much rust and they where driven in the salt. With convertible you need to be careful with floor pan rusting out it you live any where it rains. (to a lesser extent T-tops also). as the convertible shrinks with age it will leak. Even if it has a new top the last one may have leaked for awhile before it was replaces. I have seen the floorboard rust extend to the frame. The rust your showing would scare the heck out of me and for me floor pans are a weekend project. I have seen cars that looked better in the areas you showed but they where not worth fixing if you have to pay someone.
Factory oil pressure gages are crap, they are when they are new and they don't get better with age.
Shift points on you transmission are controlled by the PCM and the internal line pressure. If the line pressure is too low it could delay the shift, low line pressure indicates a pump or seal issue in the transmission.
If you are serious about this car find a trusted Mechanic and have him give it the once over, A real mechanic with a lift, not a friend who "knows" about cars. This post is looking like the beginning of a horror flick and a $75 check could make it a very quick short story.

yep could be on its last leg or just needs spark plugs and wires and 02 sensors. what wt of oil is in it, you can make a tired lt1 hold that oil pressure for a while with 20w40 or 20w50. if its 5w30 then thats good oil pressure.
