Think about rear axle wear or bearing wear. I had a noise from the back, sounded like a bad bearing. It turned out to be a worn axle where the bearing rides on the axle, Kind of a grinding sound.

I had a similar thing happen in a truck I had a couple years ago. Wound up replacing the diff. Would definitely check the fluid in the rear but meh. I have pics somewhere it was actually pretty nasty lookin.

I had something similar and it was the U-Joints (also bad trans mount). If you have a whirring sound in the rear that's changes with speed, that's likely your bearings in the diff.

If gear oil is low, just open up the screw plug and filler-up, but if you were pretty low, you may have other issues still... Are you leaking back there -- looks wet anywhere? Check the axle joints too.

I've had something similar steady at 40 and 50, and my diff fluid is fine. I was thinking u-joints or just wear on the diff.
