I have a 98 Z28. Whenever I apply the brakes I get a bad vibration. Thought it was the rotors so I replaced with new rotors and pads and it still does it. No idea what it could be. Any ideas.

 

there is a possibility its the caiplers, when i had the same problem it was bad calipers, the slide pins were seized and the caliper couldnt float normally and it warped my new rotors before they were a year old.

if the hub was damaged by over tightening the lugs unevenly and warped it that would make sense, not sure if that would cause a vibration while driving or not.

if the abs is activating that could make the pedal vibrate as it pumps the brakes, is the abs light on?

i supposed if a suspension part/bushing is worn really bad it could cause that

No the abs light is not on. No vibration while driving only when brakes are applied.

 

when you changed the rotors and pads did the slide pins glide smoothly? did you re-apply grease?

if so another possibility is you got a bad set of rotors, it does happen.

 

No. The pins were a little tough sliding through. No I did not apply grease either.

 

is it a surge or a vibration? do you feel it in the peddle only or seat of pants both?

 

It's a vibration and the whole car shakes even the steering wheel. Sometimes it's real bad and others it's not. But either way it still vibrates.

 

check your front wheel bearings and ball joints. sounds like brakes sets it off, does it stop right away when brakes are let up?

 

Yes it stop right away just vibrates.

 

Did you clean the rust off the hub bearing? If the old rotors were rusty and the rust stuck to the hub bearing this will **** the rotors at an angle and cause the same symptom as a bad rotor.

I just found this, I found it by searching the name of the tool I use. I have never installed a set of rotors without using this of something like it. The one I have in my tool box is a different design but it is 20 years old. Torqueing the wheel in the correct pattern to the correct torque is critical to rotor life. At one point GM said over torqueing wheels was the number one cause of rotor warpage.
