THe list is short!

You will need a Z28!

If you are keeping LT1 generation to LT1 generation then you can keep your heater controls and heater unit. If you go from LT1 to LS1 generations you need to swap over 99% of the car minus the seats, headliner, and carpet.

This is if you want to have a car that works like it should. If you dont believe me... Do this job yourself. Dont do this based on what you heard. Do you have the ability to do this work yourself? I am thinking not if you think that this is simply a wiring harness and engine. Well good luck with that...

Since you have a 99 the LS1 swap would be the easiest to do. It is not just a wiring harness swap. Remember on these newer cars the computer talks to everything. Example: your tach would need to be from a V8 car. There is a lot of stuff that needs swapped. Back when you could not find a Ls1 car for under 10K this swap might have been worth it. But even then you would not come out if the process with a car worth anywhere near the effort you put into it.

Lets say your 99 V6 is worth $2500. You will need a donor car with a decent LS1/tranny/rear. That will cost you 2K plus (if your lucky). Now let say you spend 100 hours doing the swap and you spend another $500 on (Plugs, wires, O2 sensors, motor mount ect..)

So when your done you have
5K+ 100 hours = A car worth 3K (converted car never sell well)

Now let say you keep you V6 as is and drive it and buy a LS1 car that needs a motor. Those cars will sell from around $1200. You buy a motor for $1500. It will take you 25-30 hours to install the motor. Add in the same $500 as above.

So now you have.
Your orginal V6 is still worth $2500
3.2K + 30 hours = 4.5K car. For a total of 7K worth of cars

The only way this swap is worth it is if you already have a low miles, known good drive line from wreched Z28 and you find a V6 body for next too nothing and you have a lot of time. Tearing a part a working V6 makes no sense. Only a complete moron invest 5K + 100 hours to build a car worth 3K.

These numbers assume going prices but even better deals can be found. I saw a LS1 Camaro on craigs list the other day that needed a trans. He was asking $1800 for it. I am sure $1600 would have bough it. Install a $400 used tranny and your done 4 hours later

BTW: You do not have to buy a donor car but when you think of all the parts your going to need like the fuel lines, radiator,AC lines all the clips and brakets buying a donor car will save you big money.

I have to agree with Gorn here. When my friend did it he already owned the doner car and it was totaled. He bought it back from the insurance. The 3.8L in his RS was showing signs of death. He had the car, the doner, the skills and since he was out of work at the time he had plenty of time. He worked on the car 12+ hours a day (usually closer to 18+) and it took him 2 weeks to get the car started and another 2 weeks to get it on the road.

Give it up. It is a stupid idea unless when you go to your garage you have two wrecked cars that were left by the car fairy. Even then it is a dumb idea, just fix the v8 car.

No one on this forum wants to wast there time listing the parts need. If you don't know the parts needed you don't have the ability to do the swap. You f-ed up. Sell you car and by a v8 car.

See the car in my sig. I built that from the ground up without a list. The car came on a flat bed trailer and in the bed of a truck. I had the engine. Traded for the tranny. Bought everything for the engine. Got the interior out of like 20 different junk yards. I had the car drivable in about 3 days. No sleep but 3 days. I have owned like 5 Camaro's.

What I am saying is that I am a good mechanic and I wouldn't even think about doing the swap you are asking about. I could, but it is stupid. It is a waste of money and time.

Or find an V8 with front end damage an swap your front end for it. That's easier then takin 2 engines out and dealing with alot of wiring issues.
