V6 Trans Mount Confusion
ACDelco's vehicle list says this 22174970 automatic transmission mount works on my 2002 Camaro RS V6 (same unit my 2001 Camaro SS uses) and multiple V6s are listed as compatible:
ACDelco Parts "CHEVROLET(11)1998-2002 CAMARO(9)1999-2002 2002 V6-231ci 3.8L F/I Vin K 2002 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I Vin G 2002 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I (MEX) 2001 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I (MEX) 2001 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I Vin G 2001 V6-231ci 3.8L F/I Vin K 2000 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I (MEX) 1999 V6-231ci 3.8L F/I Vin K 1999 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I Vin G CAMARO Z28(2)1998-2000 2000 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I Vin G 1998 V8-350ci 5.7L F/I Vin G" http://images.wrenchead.com/smartpag...70_Primary.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Mh7OfdVCL.jpg But my Chevrolet shop says it does not line up, and I instead need this one 10303747 (which I read is oil-filled), what gives? As a tip to others, be sure to PUSH UP on your transmission to see if your mount is still intact -- visual inspection does NOT suffice. Mine visually looked ok, but the rubber was completely useless and broken. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMj...Tfjk4/$_57.JPG |
Does the oul filled one cost more? Compare your new part to your old one. If all the bolt holes match up, more than likely they are trying to upsell you the oil filled part.

v6 uses a hydraulic style mount, the v8 mount will not work without getting a v8 same trans as you have brace.
the v6 trans brace has a dip in it and you have to use something for spacers to make it work and drill out the hole so the v8 mount will line up, its one of the oldest v6 mods out there. |
So you are saying that ACDelco's part vehicle list is wrong then. :icon_rolleyes:
It would be awesome if someone had the pictures of the two braces side-by-side, and another photo of a modified V6 brace. I wonder if you can just use a V8 brace on the V6 -- will it fit w/out issues?

Today by phone, ACDelco confirmed the error on their vehicle list and said they will correct it. *rolls eyes*

You just need an a4 trans brace form a ls1 v8 for your rs, bolts right in.

Interesting and thanks, suprisingly I never heard about this before this year. So with the LS1 trans brace and the LS1 trans mount do I need anything else, or is it just fine with those items and no spacers or K-Member mods necessary? Those who have done this mod, what did you notice after doing this, if anything?
Next question, why in the world would GM make it different for V6?! Because the average driver cannot tolerate any extra firmness/vibrations so they made it a pneumatic mount? :icon_rolleyes:

For those curious, here is what the broken OEM V6 Trans Mount looks like -- the rubber just separated...
