Default tyre size

Hi guys,

Took my '97 z28 LT1 to a tyre shop today to get some prices on new tyres. The rear tyres are 16" and front tyres are 15". He told me its meant to have 16" all around. Is this true? If so why have i got different tyre sizes on?? I've owned the car about 2 years now and just assumed the different tyre sizes was normal.

They look the same to me. Read the tires side wall. Should say PXXX/XX/RXX. The number after the R is the size of the wheels. Stock size for 4th gen Camaros was either 16 or 17 in. I highly doubt someone would have put different size wheels on the vehicle. Get a picture of the size wall of the tire if you can.

4th gen camaro did not come with 15in wheels. 16 or 17. 97 is 16 inch except the ss which had 17in all the way around. if you have 15in wheels they are not off a 4th gen.

Just double checked. Definitely has 15in on the front, 16in on the back. Just trying to get my head around what would posses someone to put smaller tyres on the front?? Is there any reason for someone to do this? Possibly to hide something? idk

They are yokohama's. The car is an export model originally shipped to Japan. It had since been exported to New Zealand and I brought it of a dealer

Weird. Even with it being an export, I do not see any reason why one set would be different, especially when they are the same style wheel.

Those are 1997-up wheels. But regardless, 4th gen's (here at least) didn't come with 15" wheels.
Measure the diameter of the front wheels and see if they are the same as the back, they sure look the same in the pic.
Don't just go by what the tyre sidewall says. Someone could have made 15" tires fit by carving out the center of the tire. If that was done, do not drive the car till you replace the tires.
We have special "techniques" here in the U.S. called "redneck", you may have a different term!
