turn signal problems on 97 3.8
i have a 97 3.8 maro, had since new. just last year, the speed of my turn signals started changing all the time. when it was new, and up until last year, it blinked slowly like dink donk......dink donk....dink donk....then last year it went to blinking at almost a normal speed, not quite, then reversed the slow pattern, donk dink.....donk dink.....donk dink. then about summer time it would occasionally start staying on solid as if a light burned out (this never happened) but i could bang on the dashboard and get the signal to start blinking again, and the speed of the signals was changing all the time. figured there was some kind of short, until i checked my fuses. one has something that looks almost like a giant scratch on it. when i put it back in (ill be replacing it shortly due to that scratch looking thing) it went right back to doing what its doing, but it started holding the ORIGINAL slow speed alot longer before it started speeding and slowing again. but now the whole blinker struggles occasionally, and you can see light flickering when the signal flashes, and youll hear a sssst noise when it does. would changing that scratched fuse fix ALL of the above problems, or might i also have some other problem?

nope. forgot to mention that both sides have always acted the same way as the other. and those times it stayed on solid i got out of the car and checked to make sure one wasnt burned out and sure enough both the front and rear were on.

How do the signals act when the hazards are on? The hazards and turn signal use different flashers, so if it acts fine with the hazards, it would further lead me to believe it is the flasher module for the turn signals.

the hazards have always blinked at typical turn signal speed and they still do now. ive also been in a camaro that had typical speed turn signals and slow hazards. but my hazard signals are fine. one more note. the tssst sound that i said it makes when the blinker flickers, you could hear that on occasion in between flashes when it didnt flicker, and it didnt start flickering til i took that fuse out and put it back in.

If im not mistaken the 97's had a problem with water getting into the marker lights at the bottom causing the blinkers to act funny. Mine does it from time to time.....[:-]
Ive even been pulled over for it before.
