I use STP oil filters, which is the same as the AC Delco. After seeing the separation of the felt ends, I might want to rethink that. Although, once it's all sandwiched inside the can, I don't know if that really presents a problem.
The oil "color" I was referring to isn't an only thing to go by (which is apparently how it was wrongly taken), but can assist in giving a second opinion.

here are a few of my oil reports

the samples from 3/20/13 and earlier where when my fuel pump was slowly failing, that pump lasted a good 6-7 years. I got a new fuel pump close to the end of the drain interval for 3/20/13. you can see the big improvement in wear numbers after the new pump

So according to that filter study, the Fram Xtended Guard is the shizz, with the Mobil 1 coming in second.

Yea but the unsung hero is the Purolator Classic at 6 of 31 in the filter paper test and costs just ~$3.27 at WalMart. That's what I put in my RS this oil change.

The ones you mention are two to three times the cost.

I did however find a deal on the V6 3800 Fram Extra Guard for $3.77 or $3.20 if you subscribe to regular shipments as an Add-On which means you have to add it to an order of $25 (the LS1 version is almost 3X the cost, however):

Overall score doesn't put the Purolator at the top, but it's still not a bad one. I change my Camaro oil once a year, and 1~2 times a year on my d.d. An extra few bucks a year isn't going to break me.

Did you all see the air filter results on that same site?

Kind of interesting, especially for the oiled air filters, it makes me second guess that choice...
