One think to keep in mind. When you take off the gas cap you are effectively venting the tank. As a general rule pressure is not suppose to build in the tank. It could play havoc on you fuel injection system. If a car is not running you can and will build vacuum in the tank due to changes in temps. Pressure is allowed to flow out of the tank thru the vent it then enters the Evap system. I think everyone at one time or another has had the check engine lite come on because the gas cap is not tight. That is the Evap system testing the tank can hold vacuum.

If there is no gas cap on the car there is no pressure or vacuum in the tank. Now If you blocked the vent off you could click off the gas nozzle because of fuel backing up BUT you would have to pump enough fuel to cause a rise in pressure for the whole tank and on a near empty tank that would be a fair amount of gas. I would think 1 to 2 gallons at a min. If there was an issue with the neck you could get about a 1/8 of a gallon of gas in there at full speed.

Funny part is I have a same exact issue on my Pontiac G6 winter unit I will need to sort out. At full speed the gas nozzle will click off almost instantly. I bought this car for my daughter until she got back on her feet. She did not want to complain about it and never told me about the issue. Now she has given it back to me because she got a new one. It takes about 8 minutes to fill up the tank. It does not sound long but when you are pulling the lever on the handle an 1/8 of a inch and just standing there 8 minutes feels like forever. I am not looking forward to pulling the tank.

On my Seville I had to have the gas pump handle in a four a clock position, otherwise the pump would shut off immediately.

This has probably to do with European gas pumps doesn’t always go so well with American cars and doesn’t explain your problem, but its easy to try
Thanks for that. I did notice when I fueled the other day, and right near the end of it, I turned the nozzle maybe up to 2 o'clock position and it took fuel perhaps normally. I'll try that next time I gas up.

I have no idea why this has started to happen, so I suggested perhaps some sort of venting could be the problem. The neck fills almost immediately and the pump clicks off. I noticed towards the end of my fueling the other day, the last few dollars, that if I held the nozzle at about 2 o'clock the gas flowed in without clicking. If that works for me next time, it won't be so bad and perhaps the problem will go away on it's own. I thought maybe others had similar problems with their 4th gen's, but apparently not. Thanks again!

I do have to change position on my van sometimes to get it to take fuel at full open. Camaro does it once in a great while and just change position, pull out a bit and or change angle and it eventually takes it.
