Trouble Code PO410
Threw this code and I cleared it 3 times this week. Expecting it to return, where will I start looking to diagnose and repair/replace parts on the Secondary Air Injection System. Only owned the car 1 week and am slowly removing the demons left by previous owner(s).
I guess that by now you have learned that clearing a trouble code does not fix the trouble. lol The DTC indicates that the AIR pump is not working properly. could be a blown fuse, bad AIR pump, clogged hoses from pump to AIR check valves near exhaust manifold, bad check valves preventing air to get to exhaust.
Now what? After a 2 hour cruise with no incidents last night, the car just shut off. Rolling along at 30mph and no motor. I got to the side, tried to crank, and the motor spit and sputtered, sorta fired up, but wouldn't stay running. There was a noticeable rotten egg odor at this point. 10 minutes later I fought it to start with 10 second cranks while tickling the throttle and it fired up. I drove it 2 miles home (ran perfect), shut it down in garage, found PO410 code again. Fought to start it again and now my garage smells like rotten eggs. I still need to address my PO410 issues, but what the hell just happened?
Could be that the cat is clogged and forcing gas back past the check valves, which can result in a AIR system problem. May want to do a back pressure check and see how the exhaust system is flowing.
Additionally, rotten smell from the exhaust indicates that the cat is being overloaded. check engine for misfires, ignition problems, and fuel pressure to make sure regulator and pump are working properly.
