Default Transmission

I've been worrying about this, I have a 6 speed 97 SS and I was wondering if I were to shift into 5th gear but accidently shift into reverse thus dropping the transmission out of the car lol. But I was wondering if there is a saftey feature,.

I'm pretty sure there's a preventive mechanism. If not, you can always cut out your reverse and save like one transmission to like each wheel.

The construction of the synchronizers alone assures it is very unlikely to happen. Much more common and the cause of more than one blown engine and drivetrain is to shift into 3rd instead of 5th. Sort of ruins everything. AGain, the synchros tend to provent this -- they generally make the gear closest to synchornization by far the easier one to push into. But I have seen a car after the driver mistakeningly did 3rd instead of 5th at the redline in 4th. Ruined engine and trans.

Ive got a 5 Speed 94' and I have been worried about slamming it into R instead of 6th...my dad has a 73 Stingray with a 6 speed (the only part of the car not stock) and thats how I learned to drive stick....so there is no way to get it into reverse at 100mph?

I belive the T56 has an electronic sylenoid that locks off reverse if the car is moving. I know for a fact that I cannot put my dad's Z06 into reverse unless the car is running and not moving foreward.

See the sticky, in the 4th gen V8 section, on the T56 gear box.
