TPS sensor install

TPS sensor install
Replaced my TPS off a hunch due to a rough idle while back (i know i shouldnt be tossing parts at the car without proper testing) but now i am getting check engine light randomly (on and off) and the idle is around 1000rpms. I havent checked the voltage after installing the new one but im pretty sure i didnt install it correctly. I read one another forum i shouldve installed it at 45degree angle and rotate it counter clockwise until the screws line up? Not sure how true this is. Everything is stock as well. Thanks for the help.. 1995 A4 LT1

this may help. shows how to adjust the tps. should also tell you if the tps is showing the right volts to the pcm

A bad TPS doesn't cause a rough idle, but can cause drivability problems such as hesitation, bad gear shifts on automatic trans. Rough idle is usually the result of misfire, too slow an idle speed (IAC valve), wild cam, or mechanical problem.

just reread and if your getting service engine light then you should have trouble codes stored, stop by or call your local parts store and see if they can scan your car for trouble codes, write them down and let us know what they are. crab ok you have a 95 so finding a place to scan may be an issue. you have a obd1 system with a obd2 plugin. if you can find a obd1 scanner this will work. http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg code reader will not work.

Alright back again, the tps is acting up randomly causing bad shifting (a4). i used the guide Craby gave me but I am new to using a voltage tester, so i exposed the wires on the blue one and hooked the meter tester up grounding the black cable and using the red to touch against the wires with key on (engine off). It looks like is showing 1 DC volt with the key on. I am thinking of getting another TPS sensor from the store and putting that on since i messed with the teeth inside the TPS sensor itself. I am pretty sure its supposed to read different votalges when opening and closing throttle but nothing seems to be changing. Thanks for the help again
