Default Torque App w/ OBD2 Bluetooth Adapter, Available Data

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2000 camaro v6 (stock) throwing some EGR codes, so I plugged in Torque Pro with my OBD2 adapter to see if I could read EGR valve position. I'm not getting any values. Does anybody else use the Torque App (gotta use Pro, free version doesn't have EGR as an option)? If so, can you see if you can read any data off your EGR valve? I'm hoping you can, as that'll tell me something is wrong with the valve (hopefully the valve and not the ECM).

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, I just checked my own car (97 v6) and I did not get any read outs for EGR valve position either. In the torque app you can go to the adapter status and see which sensors your vehicle supports, it seems as though our cars do not have a sensor for EGR valve position.

Sorry I did not get time to check but I have found most scanners have abilities to monitor things that do not exist in GM cars. The first example that comes to mind is the fuel pressure. Old GM system do not have a pressure monitor.

The PID for the 97 and 2000 V6 is 1152. That particular value requires no formula conversion, the value read is the position (0-100). There is a sensor for EGR position.

Description --- PID
EGR Closed Valve Pintle Position (V) [0.00 - 5.00] --- 11bb
EGR Duty Cycle (%) [0 - 100] --- 1171
EGR Feedback (V) [0.00 - 5.00] --- 114b
EGR Flow Test Count (Count) [0 - 255] --- 11bd
EGR Pintle Position Error (%) [-100 - 99] --- 11c1
EGR Position - Actual (%) [0 - 100] --- 1152
EGR Position - Desired (%) [0 - 100] --- 119b

Thanks Gary

Does anyone know if the torque app allow for sending PID commands? If I understand it right that means you could get pre 2000 ABS codes if you can.

Torque, and most OBD2 scan apps, are limited to sending standard OBD requests for the engine PID (parameter id). That is a request for a specific data item (TPS, RPM, MAP, etc) and is the way most OBD2 scanners operate. Torque only does the basic Govt-mandated OBD2 data and not the extended GM-specific data. You have to use the free add-on TorqueScan for the GM-specific data. And TorqueScan does not support any non-engine items like ABS codes or parameters, SIR data, actuation commands, etc. The author has hinted that those could be offered someday, but I am not aware of any such features. To be fair, those are more difficult to implement than the engine PID's and they make use of information that GM considers highly proprietary. So far, GM has not enforced a ban on free use of their engine PID's, but have for most of the more advanced features. It still costs $50k to be completely legal in selling an app that uses the GM data. But I suspect that the older these cars get, the less objection GM could have to the use of their data.
