Mechanically, the rearend would work. His car just won't have a functioning ABS system.

I was under the impression that these rear ends were only 4 channel if they had traction control.

Traction control was optional for 95-97 Z28s, but standard on V6s. When body styles switched, TC was standard on Z28s and then optional on V6s from 99 up. If I remember right, Firebird/Trans Ams were different in this aspect.

4 channel should equal TC. 3 channel would indicate none TC. Did you check the current one you have to see if the sensor is in the pumpkin or at each wheel by the brakes?

yeah, i checked it, both mine and the one i bought are 3 channel (sensor on top of/in the pumpkin)

i was board so i checked out the vin of the car the rear end came from and it confirmed it was from a v6

my 96 y87 has traction control and its a 3 channel, 3.42, lsd (sensor in the pumpkin)

so what rear did you buy? if it came form a non y87 v6 car or 6 speed v8, its just another 3.23 or worse a 3.08.

so what rear did you buy? if it came form a non y87 v6 car or 6 speed v8, its just another 3.23 or worse a 3.08.

FYI the 98-02 also have bigger rear axle hubs, so you'll need to grind down the the center of the wheels to fit, if your still running stock wheels. had to grind down my 01 ss 10 spokes to fit.
The newer rims are smaller and have to be opened up. If he has a new axel that will be smaller and his older rims will bolt right on.
