Tires
I have 16" rims and I'm putting my summer tires on. I have a set of good tires that are aren't as wide. They were bought last year and used on my 1997 RS. With my Z28 came to the stock tires.. not sure what size they are.. but I'm putting them back on. They're a fair bit wider than the RS ones.
I thought that the Z28 ones would be better.. wider, so more traction, came stock.. seems pretty reasonable to me.
My dad says that the thinner ones will be better though because they have more weight per square inch. He also says the wider ones tend to hydroplane when it rains a decent amount. What do you guys suggest?

Stock tires for a Z28 are going to be a 245/50. In all actuality the tire compound is what really matters mostfor traction. A wider tire will give you a larger contact patch which helps traction in dry situations. Your dad is correct about weight/sq. inch if we're talking about snow or something where the tire needs to get the edges to grip, but for dry situations you'll usually get better traction with a larger contact patch (once again, this is highly dependent on the tire compound). Wider tires do have more of a tendency to hydroplane due to their larger surface area.
